Step inside this house, Green Team

Yes, early May is that time again -- time to Walk for Toby. Our friends' son was born with CF and several years ago they started participating in a fundraising walk with family and friends in Portland. This year we had the group over to our house for a post-walk barbecue. It was fun to entertain at the new place again, even if it isn't "done."

The Huh House is nicely set up for get-togethers so we're looking forward to more opportunities to host them, we just need to get the last of the boxes unpacked!

Butter me up clam and hear me wine

Well, the opportunity for a quick beach jaunt arose in April, when B had a friends' gaming weekend  planned and L joined friend Debbie at the seafood & wine festival in Astoria. The festival has been going for decades but this is the first time we've gone - it always seemed such a tourist thing to do. As it was, the event was fun but very crowded. Maybe once was enough, we'll see. Anyway, the requisite  things were done: walk along the river in Astoria, visit Keith at aquarium/walk on Prom or beach - or both- and breath the lovely air. Which was full of rotting jellyfish that had washed up but that's OK. It's still the beach.

Prodigal son returns

Well, after 10 long months that went surprisingly fast (more because of our advanced age than anything else...) TJ returned home. Unlike his stint in basic and speciality training, this time the Army  kept him busy enough that he neither wrote or called often. Either that or it was the fact that he was many, many thousands of miles away in Afghanistan.

He's decided to remain in Redmond, where his National Guard unit is based, and go to the community college. Longterm it sounds like he is still interested in a career in aviation mechanics, like his father. Right now he's got some G.I. benefits for schooling and related expenses, so he's wanting to make the most of that and get an education that will help him in that field.

He's only shared the very basics with us regarding his time in Afghanistan and due to a hard drive malfunction he came home with very little in the way of photos but hopefully over time he'll have more to talk about.

The House That Makes You Go Huh Part II

Ugly Bathroom From Hell
We haven't posted a lot of photos of our house projects because so few are completely done. BUT, our main bathroom is done and we are very happy with it. It started out just replacing the crap vinyl but grew from there as we had more and more ideas.

More projects to come, so more photos to come.

After: new floor, wainscot, paint..

My dance card is full

Lori Ross-Paul celebrates
Well, updates from the Rose City. B has been busy working and Leslie's been busy not working, our house projects are progressing. We've been successful in our goal to entertain more, socialize with friends and family. We haven't spent much time exploring the city yet but hopefully that's to come.
L's cousin Lori had a big birthday and threw a party for herself and friends with birthdays. We took our friend Mary, whose history with Mary goes way back (Lori was our Campfire leader).

Debbie B and Brian in our house
In March, Jess came to visit during her spring break. It was her first time seeing the new house, occupied anyway. We took her to the Melting Pot, to do the big city fondue thing. While there she met up with some Portland-area college friends for some shopping.
