Josh's graduation was a joy on many levels. All the usual ones: excitement at the milestone, fellowship with friends and family come to celebrate with you, pride in the accomplishment.
But it was special milestone because Josh struggled more than usual this year in his classes and there were times we wondered whether he'd end the year with the credits he needed. But he pulled it off and now is making plans to attend the local community college in the fall.
Then, on graduation day, with so much good feeling in the air, Leslie received the news that her brother Steve was dying. It was bittersweet, to swim in such opposite emotions at the same time. Steve was significantly older than Leslie and had been fighting leukemia for a short, but intense few months. He was more than a brother -- he was a friend and a father-figure and he will be very much missed.
